The LOAD SHIFT® implants are made of titanium and constructed modularly. Surfacestructured metaphyseal components, variable in size, enable the adaptation to the anatomy of the individual femur as a condition for best possible metaphyseal integration and load charging. The surface-structured metaphyseal components are available in 4 sizes, from 17/21 mm to 23/25 mm, each size as “small”, “medium” and “large” version. There the size defines the dimension (diameter) of the tapered portion of the metaphyseal component. The versions “small” to “large” correspond to the increasing extension of the component into the calcar area. High-polished stem components of different diameters (8mm to 20mm) can be combined optionally with all metaphyseal components thus producing an optimal fit in the individual femoral diaphysis. The moulding of a dimensionally accurate bony implant bed is made by the aid of special precision instruments consisting of drills and guided reamers for the medullary cavity as well as of guided calcar rasps. |

Spreaders of bioabsorbable polymer. The spreader in the area of the top of the stem consists of poly(L-lactid-co-D,L-lactid) ([C3H4O2]n). For this special component a minor quantity of material of the biocompatible polymer suffices. |
